Marula Mercantile Restaurant Review

A perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of main town Nairobi.

Marula Mercantile is an open air dining restaurant located in Karen off Marula lane. It’s a cute hidden spot to enjoy some fresh air while eating tasty wholesome food.

Style

The Restaurant has an open style dining arrangement with tables made from beautiful re-purposed wood and metal. Its super inviting and has lots of natural light coming through, perfect for those #NRW2017 photos you’ll be snapping. Their seating arrangement easily accommodates large or small groups and their menu offers delicious contemporary food that’s wholesome, and focuses on getting the best seasonal ingredients.

Marula Mercantile Restaurant Review

What did I eat?

To start off, before I chose my starter or main, I quickly worked my way down the dessert menu to decide on my final foodie experience. Strawberry trifle.

For starters I opted for the butternut squash fritters with a tamarind yoghurt sauce, then a garden pea falafel served with roasted carrots, a smoky eggplant spread, feta tabbouleh, and home made flat bread as a main.

Like many of you who’ve made resolutions I wanted to try the vegetarian friendly 3-course meal.

Starter & Main

The fritters had a nice sweet bite to them, which worked beautifully with the tamarind yoghurt sauce. Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The garden pea falafel had a refreshing taste from the herbs and spices and held it’s shape well.  The smoked eggplant gave the dish a nice surprise, whereas the flatbread was a bit crispy. I would have probably preferred it with pitta bread or something a bit softer.

Otherwise everything else worked well on the plate and you really can’t go wrong with falafel as a great vegetarian or vegan friendly option.

Dessert

Onto the dessert, which was just perfect. It wasn’t your traditional strawberry trifle with a sponge cake base. Instead it had shortbread like butter biscuits layered with a whipped cream filling, fresh strawberries and strawberry jam.

Why you should try it out.

With tempting cocktails to go with their delightful menu Marula Mercantile have a great selection of  hearty dishes you can enjoy in a beautiful garden or in door setting. whether you’re after tasty healthy options or indulgent home made treats Marula Mercantile is definitely a place to try out this NRW2017.

P.s Be sure to grab a copy of the yummy magazine to get the garden pea falafel recipe.
