A Trip To Ancient Italy
Located in Two Rivers mall is the newest branch of the Colosseum restaurant serving up authentic Italian cuisine. Named after the worlds famous amphitheater, this family owned restaurant is a direct representation of Italian culture.
Courtesy of EatOut Kenya and The Colosseum restaurant a few bloggers were invited to the soft launch opening of the Colosseum restaurant where I met some amazing content creators with a passion for good food and new dining experiences.
Style
Right on entry we were welcomed with warm smiles, smooth Italian jazz and vivid historical references of ancient Rome. The indoor seating is open style while outdoors extended into the foodcourt seating arrangement. Easily caters to families and small groups.
Brief History
Pinsa pronounced (Peensa) is from the Latin word “pinsere” which means to crush.
Ancient Romans would crush grains and cereals mixed with salt, aromatic herbs and water to create a flatbread known as Pinsa Romana. Formed into oval shapes and cooked on a hot stone with coals, the flavour profile and preparation process is a gem to Italian food culture.
Serving rich Italian food from over 20 regions in Italy, the Colosseum prides itself in using traditional methods and being the first Italian restaurant in Kenya to offer Pinsa Romana.
The Food Experience
Starters & Main
To start us off, Chef presented us with beautiful platters of assorted deli meats, cheese, Zucchini tempura and a Citrus red snapper and pineapple dish. Onto the next course we got to try a selection of Pinsa Romas with prosciutto, Sun Dried Chilli Tomato, Cheesy mushroom and Peperoni. All with a good helping of cheese and paired with a lovely Italian pinot grigio.
Dessert
Tiramisu, Panna Cotta, Crème brûlée and a hazelnut tart is what was served for dessert.
Soft delicate mascarpone meets strong coffee, sponge cake biscuits and a dusting of cocoa powder. A rich, indulgent spoonful of perfection.
What a beautiful experience it was, a big thank you to the Colosseum restaurant and Eatout for this dining experience and to you my readers I hope you get to visit the Colosseum and experience great Italian culture and food.
Happy dining,
Yours’
